India is an awesome country with tremendous potential....It has a great heritage too...and this holy land has given birth to many pioneers as well....I only know how proud I am to be an Indian......but there is one thing in this advertisement that I do not agree with.....Gandhi was not a hero and should not be portrayed as one....Father of the Nation..HAHA....what a joke !!....Gandhi, Jinnah and some other politicians like him should not be regarded as father of the nation...
Aww why do you say that? I'll be honest with you.. not too long ago, I didn't respect Gandhi ji as much as I immensely respected Bhagat Singh & other freedom fighters, but believe me, what Gandhiji stood for back then, is going to keep the world together somewhere down the road. That's what I think. Why don't you think they should be regarded as Fathers of the Nation? I'll respect whatever opinion you have, I'm just curious to know :)
Well, this is a broad topic but some key points: 1. He initially favored British Raj and until 1940's was in the favor of partial freedom under British rule...while there were intellectuals like Tilak, Ajit Singh, Chidambaram Pillai who had already realized that India cannot progress under this imperialistic rule in as early as 1918. Hence, he slowed India's independence. 2. Called of the biggest Independence movement in the history of India due to Chauri Chaura - blunder - loss of 25 yrs
3. Motilal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose both complained of Gandhi's tendency to ignore party resolutions when they went against his wishes, and to work with cliques rather than consult and cooperate with all party members. In 1939 Bose won the presidency of INC defeating Gandhi's candidate. Gandhi then formed a block with Nehru and Patel to check Bose - therefore, hardly a mahatma - shrewed politician rather. 4. Bose had always strived to accelerate the freedom struggle - Gandhi Jealous
5. Could have stopped Bhagat Singh's execution - British Empire under tremendous pressure- historians believe that he did not do so because he feared that Bhagat Singh was getting more popular. 6. Formation of Pakistan - He agreed - damm him, we are still bearing the brunt of this poor decision.
people think that he was against violence...majority of the historians just deem it as apolitical strategy...that people even grew tired of arnd 1940's...India has always chosen wrong leaders...
and oh yea...the biggest thing....people think that Britishers left because of Gandhi....this could not be far from the truth....British Empire had grown very weak after World War II and could not afford to spend any more on military operations...in colonies...therefore...quit india movement was a success ....otherwise non-violence hardly suited for gaining independence....sorry for the multiple comments but it is a big issue....needed a lot of space.
man.. after along time, I've found a person who would really catch the view point.. I totally agree with what you've said and too generic without hurtin any one.. I like your comments on gandhi that are too basic to be understood by a common man, still we follow the same path!! We are screwed and been screwed upon till date!!
