note that the chorus is to the tune of "bringing in the sheaves" a popular church hymn... this song is a satirical look into the tendency of individuals to blame influences in society, while ignoring the effects of their own actions

I reckon he's not blaming anything at all on the RS. He's commenting on how ppl and society fail to face up to its/their own responsibilities. They blame anyone and anything for their own shortcomings. So, anything new and different, like the Stones were in the 60's is fair game for blame...Just my take on it!

Great song! I analyzed it once for a Cultural Studies course when I was in grad school. Thanks for the post. "Doc" Long

@magprob ditto - I've loved the stones from the first note.

@magprob Sounds like a hell of a ride. I want to know what being "shit at and hit" truly means...?

Things I blame on the Rolling Stones:
Hitch hiking around the U.S. to see them every where I could and getting laid, stoned, arrested, shot at and missed, shit at and hit, chased by cops over fences in the parking lot of the San Diego Sports Arena in "72" and just barely making it over the fence, drunker than hell on whiskey and coke and passing out in the bathroom somewhere I don't remember, learning to play like Kieff in open tunings, and just fucking loving their music like a fiend. All good

My wife's favorite Kristofferson song, I think. It's such an unusual song. It's always fascinated me how the main part sounds like the Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown", and then the other part is gospel.

It's a piss take on American society at the time...listen to the lyrics.....just like we now blame it on video games and TV.....

@Ishhkabibble blame it on the copyright overlords?
I like what you wrote in your blog with this song. I thought of a drunk tavern choir more than of a church choir, but maybe you are right...

It sure wasn't my blog..but you're right this doesn't sound real sober.
I'm a big Rolling Stonesfan, so I find this song is very funny.
