Home movie shot on US Navy base Eleuthera Bahamas in 1974. Some scenes on base, some cars, driving on the main highway that runs the length of the long narrow island
@mrmelo25 I probably know your dad then. I started working for WECo in 1971 and I knew most of the field engineers and a lot of the installers who worked on the SOSUS project at the time. I didn't know very many of the Bell Labs people until I went to Whippany in the early 80s.
I did look at your slides and I have quite a few of the same views. It was interesting to see the old French Leave and I presume the fire at the 4 minute mark. It had already burned when I was there.
You might like to see pictures taken on Eleuthera in 1966. My dad also worked at the Navfac as part of the SOSUS program. Your film from '74 shows that not much had changed since then! You can see part of the documentary on my channel.

@uwlarry1 My dad also worked with WECo, and we were there in '63 and '66. Some of his slides from Eleuthera are on my channel-check it out!

IT's amazing to see this video, we visit the base all the time and it feels like being in a post-apocalyptic video now.

This really brings back memories. I was the WECo engineer at Eleuthera (75/76) and I lived at Hut Point. That was some fine living.
