A nice little story, but I think all the positive things (in this video and in life) boil down to just one thing - parents that are actively involved in their children's lives.

Indeed! The homeschool community is incredibly diverse, but one things remains constant: involved parents. I think you're right--when it comes to kids, it doesn't matter whether you are religious or not, wealthy or not, college-educated or not. Making yourself responsible for providing opportunities for your child makes all the difference.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing a little info on your sources. There's not enough info here to look up the actual data. Can you provide links to the actual sources (not just the names of people or organizations)?
I've certainly seen amazing benefits in homeschooling our family, including the depth of their education, the closeness of our family, the character of my kids, their confidence, and their sense of empowerment.
I think it's a stretch to assume a 10% recent growth will sustain itself.

Certainly! I've got an ebook coming out shortly with exact studies and locations of all the statistics referenced in this video. Check out the website--it'll be on the homepage! (We'll also post a message here.)

@cvontres @Thewizzardof9 The ebook has been posted which examines much of the homeschool literature out there today. It is written for new homeschool parents who aren't sure what to say when people question their decision to homeschool. Opinions are hard to back up, but facts are rock solid. Take a look at the NAH website and let us know what you think!

Also, it occurs to me that while homeschoolers on average do better on standardized tests, there are a number of them that don't participate. Not all states require it, and those that wouldn't do well may be less likely to take the tests in the first place.
Not that I'm a fan of standardized testing -- info can be learned in a different order, and standardized testing assumes a specific order. Info is retained better long-term when scaffolded around interests and experiences.

Good question! Sources used: NHERI, HSLDA, NCES, Gary Knowles, Brian Ray, Michael Cogan, Richard Rossmiller, Mary Parke, US Census 2010, US Dept of Education. Check out more on homeschooling at our website!

It would be interesting to know where you got your statistics on home schooling.
