It's easy to criticize but what the US to do? Let Bin Laden enjoy safe heaven in Afghanistan and laugh? As far as 'the war increased terrorism'-success of 9/11 without 'punishment' would just embolden the Islamist even more. I think the US after defeating Taliban should have left the Afghans to fight each other, thing, it seems they love to do.

The moment the country would become a threat to US-hit them again. Building democracy in there is hopeless!

There's a TRILLION dollars worth of rare earth minerals in Afganistan. Take Lithium for example. Afghanistan has the largest source of Lithium in the world...batteries for Hybrid cars use lithium... It's pretty ironic that people who are driving Hybrid cars like the Prius, thinking they are doing the right thing, are actually benefitting from this ill-begotten war... :/
