How do you know if that simple QRP design is going to get you contacts or not?

Have a look at its features.

If it's very low power, stuck on one frequency and doesn't have efficient transmit/receive changeover it won't do much for you.

In this video I explain why these features are all important and present a simple mod that will make almost any VXO rig into a more versatile split frequency transceiver.

  • Do you fish much here mate? hehehehe :-)

  • @vk3crg And sometimes I've been known to let it slide, not telling them I'm not fishing. Which can be slightly awkward if they talk about fishing. Luckily my definition of 'catch' includes DX.

  • Good job mate, but relay have some capacitance between contacts and to coil, on 3.5 MHz it is no problem but on higher fq maybe...

Another idea is to use diode to connect additional capacitor i use it my contruction.

  • Thanks Peter! Well done!

  • I understand more when I hear someone explain things like you just Did Peter, thank you. I have suffered from this learning difficulty for 56 years now and have read this info so many times I cannot count, but this one verbal explaination Clicked. Wish more did this rather than just posting vid of the unit working.

  • My HW-9 has all those features! It's unfortunate that Heathkit disappeared.
