You Learn Something New Every Day:

I've seen one of these guys in concert. I didn't realize that Jim Mankey went on to form one of my very favorite 80s bands, Concrete Blonde. I saw them open up for Eddie Money(!) in 1986. (I feel that I should mention that I was there *just* to see Concrete Blonde and spent most of Eddie Money's set smoking cigarettes in the bathroom.) Great show, but the audience was less than appreciative (duh) and Johnette Napolitano (their awesome singer) ended up mooning the audience. God, I miss the 80s.

PS "Still in Hollywood" is a badass tune that still sounds badass today.

Ron Mael in guyliner and a 'fro on German television in the early 70s.

Do you need any more incentive to watch this?

Didn't think so.

Ha Ha! This one is safe too! Now Ron's eyeliner experiment will be on YouTube FOREVER! Still, you should buy the record "Sparks," it's pretty weird but in a good way.

  • HAHAHAAA who is that hitler pianist ? hahaaa oh my god, this song just popped into my head out of NOWHERE after years. I fucking LOVE this song. LOLLL

  • Brilliant!!! ... but what was the camera man thinking at the end?

  • Gotta defend Eddie Money here... enjoying Sparks, Concrete Blonde and Eddie Money is not mutually exclusive. It's fine if you don't like Money as much... but he is a great guy and his career provided an opportunity for you to see Concrete Blonde. Thanks for posting!

  • Would this have been 1972 or 1973?

  • I could have done without the acid-tinged camera work at the end of the clip. But seeing the band's proto power pop arrangement of Do Re Mi(on German TV no less)was priceless.

  • I'd have given anything to see the 'original' lineup live!! What a great video!!! I met Ron and Russ....and Earle Mankey several months ago!

  • The Wonder Girl in the horizontal stripe Snow White suit should be made an honorary member of Sparks.

  • thanks for posting this early SPARKS favorite of mine. FYI - Earle Mankey put out some obscure singles too. check out Mau Mau...
