Richard Crowson has been a professional cartoonist since 1976. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, he attended Memphis State University where his cartooning for the student newspaper won him numerous awards including first place in the National Student Cartoonist Contest. He drew for the Jackson Sun in Jackson, Tennessee from 1976 until he came to the Wichita Eagle in 1986 to work as a political cartoonist.
Crowson has won many awards for his work at the Eagle over the years. His cartoons have been reprinted in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and in numerous books. A collection of his cartoons was published in 1992 entitled "Prairie Mirth." He continues to do cartoon illustration for advertising agencies, his work appearing in magazines, trade journals, online and in newspapers. He teaches classes in cartooning to all age groups and is a frequent lecturer on the subject in Wichita, Kansas, where he resides with his wife, Karen and his daughter, Haley.
