Over the last week, several of my students at The Putney School built a Ruben's tube for the school's science and math departments as part of an independent project week. Here one of them, Julien, is playing the Mario Bros. theme on a keyboard with an amplifier feeding into the tube. Keyboard is not Julien's main instrument (we will be doing this with a guitar at some point) so the song isn't perfect, but it's still wicked awesome.

Since folks asked: the hole separation is 1/2in and the hole diameter is 1/16in.

  • We're trying to build one of these as well... what type of tube did you use for your construction, and where did you get it? thanks!

  • @mikeyfazed Just a normal threaded steel pipe from a normal hardware store. Ain't nothin' special.

  • can i please know the diameter of the holes and separation distance.. your ruben's tube looks perfect

  • @chitii91 hole diameter is 1/16in and hole separation is 1/2in. enjoy!

  • that guy is so serious

  • @chitii91 Okay so we just fitted a regulator and valve on it so we could use it outdoors. I'd recommend that you do that so you can just adjust it manually.

  • so.......YOU FARTED!!!!!

  • Yeah! Step up reed!

  • @chitii91 I am sorry to tell you that I don't know the exact gas pressure. The gas we used came straight out of our school's gas system (maybe you know the small gas suplliers in physics class?). It worked with us. I believe you can adjust it yourself though. Just start off slow and light the flames (asap), than start adjusting flame height by providing more gas. Hope you understand this, my English isn't that well ;) Let me know if you have further questions.

  • @daanbanaan789 Looks nice .. what was your gas pressure?

  • what an awful saxophone player

  • @chitii91 I made one, with 2 centimeter distance in between the holes. Diameter of the tube was about 10 cm. You can watch it on my channel.
