Homemade drill press

Made with a Zenbot 1216 CNC. Rack and pinion made with gear generator software from woodgears.ca.

Works good for light projects. I've used it to drill PCBs, thin aluminum, and 3/4 birch plywood. It really needs a return mechanism of sorts, I am just binding the pinion shaft so that it doesn't move under its own weight.

Drawer slides are plentiful on eBay and check your local thrift store for a power drill!

@40Mcollins The slide mechanism is made from 2 high quality drawer slides. I picked them up really cheap. You can get them cheap on eBay as well. Make sure they are ball bearing slides, though.

What measurements did you put into the wood gears generator? do you have a parts list and some plans. It would be great to see a video of this in action.

that was cool, best thing i like is the depth of travel, next is the simplicity of the unit
