The reason is that Life magazine purchase ALL RIGHTS to the film. In their next weekly issue following the assassination they published 31 frames of the film and more in subsequent issues. There was nothing sinister about the film not being shown as a motion picture...the reason Rather saw it at all was Zapruder was taking bids on who to sell it to!!! Had a TV news organization like CBS purchased it, it WOULD have been shown in motion picutre form.

You have to ask why was the zapruder film not shown for so long??If jfk was shot today the zapruder film would of ben on you tube within 5 minutes , then dan rather could not have lied and said "his head went forward with considerable force:

3:10 he is wrong about the Zapruder film. It was in fact shown on TV before 1975 albeit only to a small audience on a local TV staion either in Dallas or New Orleans (can't remember) aired it in the late sixties when Jim Garrison was having his trial against Clay Shaw.
