OK, not the best quality video in the world (or the most interesting), but I wanted to preserve this old analogue footage we shot back in 2007 showing part of the run up north to the Orkney Isles. So here we see the A9 coast road from near Brora up to the Orkney ferry at Scrabster from the passenger seat of my old '73 VW camper. I know the music won't be to everyones taste, but choice was limited when looking for a 9 minute track that was both frenetic and calming in the same instance :-)

  • Thanks for the ride Nigel, and well done the 73 camper van, thats one hell of a long way from home, even I haven't been that far north, and I get around a bit.

Fantastic scenery, is it continued on the ferry? would have liked to have sen that.

    Paul :-)

  • @Bevoin1970 Thanks Paul, it's 600mls from here (midlands) to Scrabster. I've done the journey 4 or 5 times in the camper now & usually do most of the distance in the first/last day, camping at Dornoch which makes for a 540ml non-stop run - far enough in the old bus! My record is 620 miles in a day returning from the Loire Valley.

The journey certainly does continue on after the ferry, onto the Orkney mainland, then the Isles of Sanday, Eday & Stronsay. I'll try & knock up a vid sometime :-)

  • @enpeemac Im still marvelling at the miles that camper van has done, I mean I know how it feels to drive up to Inverness and straight back again in a modern day van, thats uncomfortable enough after a while, your doing those miles in a 73 VW, not for the faint hearted I imagine. I envy your sense of adventure, good for you.

Keep it up, long live the camper, and stay safe out there. :-)
