For the first time ever, Abdullah Ibrahim, formally known as Dollar Brand, went to Robin Island, where Mandela was imprisoned. All forms of music were banned. A lawyer smuggled one of Abdullah's songs into the control room, blocked the doors and played it over the loud speakers. Mandela's first sound of music in decades.

  • @miss3v3lyn I can listen to this piece over and over again and always feel something different. Pure joy!

  • @djv500 Order out of chaos? This more than shows how good is born out of hardship and struggle. Maybe we would never had this piece produced were it not born out of those hardships and struggles this man and his people,my people, went through. The atrocities that this nation went through, some of it I witnessed from a very young age,but Baba Mandela and this people came out triumphantly, never seeking revenge for what their ancestors, and themselves, endured! Amazing!

  • Many years ago while working at a factory I was tasked to sweep out a warehouse in sweltering heat. This music came on the radio and I had never heard it before and did not know from whence it came. I felt a strength come into me and it became a joy to sweep out this dirty old place. Later when I learned of this man, his music and the struggle endured of his people; well I'll never complain for sweeping again.
