Your information for the video is incorrect. This was a hit on the country singles chart in late 1980 and early 1981 (not 1982). It crossed over to both the pop and adult contemporary singles charts in early 1981.

I was listening to this song when I was about 5 - I thought the devil was going to come in and make the person have fun breaking rules, and possibly learn to walk on telephone wires. Totally could be a dude singing about that, why not?

There is a version of this song that my dad used to play when I was a kid which distinctly contained the phrase "we'll have one hell of a night," but I can't find any trace of it on youtube. Maybe this is the radio edit.
