@rrz518 - I would if they flew out of Philly. They don't operate IN the US so it's kind of a moot point. That and I don't want to have to go through Dubai to get to Cape Town. A friend from ZA starts training as a flight attendant for Emirates in June. The advantage Emirates has is that it's a national carrier which the US doesn't have so it's heavily subsidized. Take away the subsidies and watch what happens.
Deregulation ruined air travel. I flew on Pan Am in 1970 coming home from Europe on a family vacation and it was like being in a nice hotel. And that was coach. Once they made flying more available, people who had never flown and have no manners or class were able to afford it . You want cheap, you get cheap. Hey, Billy Bob, your $139 fare doesn't cover the associated costs so you have to pay them afterwards. Thanks a lot.
There's nothing wrong with many airplanes from this time (1978) if they are maintained corrently and have the expected safety updates (like improved latches on the cargo doors). Heck there's planes from the 1940s still flying fine.
I do miss OZARK! Flew them to GSO in '86. An airline is about the most expensive AND difficult business to run. You've got FIERCE competition, fuel costs, strict regulations, high maintenance costs for the planes. It's labor intensive requiring many employees & contractors, high operating costs, labor unions, weather delays, and as of late, a poor economy! It's these reasons airlines are having such a difficult time these days. Cutbacks MUST to be made, but NOT in safety, but in amenities.
@beergut111 im not so sure the gen public accepts nonchalantly air crashes but i do know what you mean ppl are desensitized, even 1 crash to me is unacceptable; i have a real penchant for air safety. I hate the loss of the airline culture of which safety was a huge part ; its more mechanized now. fortunately, the overall safety record is improving. great video showing chicago skyline, im surprised they picked such a foggy/ovc day instead of pc or sunny nice video though!

@coasterboy70 hey, lay off the flight attendants. They are only doing what the airline wants them to.

unions aint the problem at all. corporate greed is. I dont know about you but I dont want my pilot making $40,000 per year.
if you had to have open heart surgery, would you shop around for the cheapest doctor? you get what you pay for.
