This is eerily evocative of one of Laffy's spells. He always had an alibi. It was always someone else doing the bad things outside of his awareness.

You want to believe that we were made by an evil alien overlord, fine, but don't try to defend an organization that since its inception has infiltrated the US government and steals money from its parishioners.
