Rosie Mendez-Hamlin wrote the lyrics to "Angel Baby" when she was a 14-year old student in San Diego, Ca. She put together a vocal group and had the song recorded, but in her haste to get the record distributed, she inadvertently signed over her songwriting credits which ultimately excluded her from getting royalties on a song which ultimately went to #5 in the nation in December of 1960. Her battle to re-secure the copyright to her song led to an early break-up of the group so "Angel Baby" would be the only Top 40 hit for Rosie & The Originals.

What I love about this song is that it starts with a terribly out of tune guitar and has that really sleazy sax break, but it works! Rosie's voice ties it all together. It's a punk rock masterpiece 16 years before punk!
