hey, if your mantis is still alive im VERY suprised. g.smithis are prone to shell rot under high inensity lights, especially metal halides. id be suprised if it survied the 10months

Hello, you have a great tank and I have a few questions. What type of mantis is that? Also about how many gallons would you estimate your tank to be? And lastly, what type/brand of light do you have?

Hi,
Ike is a g. smithii. My one tank was 8" cube and about 2 gallons, then I built a 12" cube which equaled about 7.5gallons - but there was additional water in the system due to the cannister filter.
The light is a 70w de metal halide with an electronic ballast and a 20k bulb. I retrofitted it into a drafting desk lamp that I found at Staples. The lamp was originally a 150w de halogen light.
All the best,
Chad

You are right. This tank is the updated version with more room for Ike. It is 1 cubic foot.

why would you name your mantis eisenhower.... there must be a scarier name for this monster

Actually I named "Ike" after one of my Grandpa's two German Shepards (haha, which in turn was named after Eisenhower... the other dog's name was "Mac")
