A short film to show what progress my little permaculture project has had and what i'm trying to grow this year 2011. I just wanted to show some ideas that were generated at the two permaculture weekend courses me and Zillah have held in the past year or so.
I have finally dug up all the concrete paving stones that were running down the middle of the garden as a few people mentioned it was the best part of the garden with more sun than other areas. This has taken me some time to rearrange the garden this year and have found double digging extremely painful due to the degenerative bone syndrome I have as well as the Leukaemia and Multiple Myeloma I suffer from.
The garden has been brilliant therapy for countering the depression I get from the side effects from the medication I take and on top of that I have to take morphine for the pain i'm in which can be quite incapacitating sometimes, this should also explain why I look a bit ill.
I will upload some footage of the garden 5 weeks after planting which is amazing. This garden has morphed into a grow your own veg garden but has some of the principals of permaculture incorporated into what I do but this is not a lesson in permaculture but more of a small scale transformation from a totally dead paved garden in to a excellent source of organic (as we can get it ) food, saving us loads of money from supermarkets who import nearly everything from the other side of the world.
I will be hopefully having crops of, strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, blackberries, apples, cherries, wild strawberries, passion fruit, kiwi and pears with any luck. Then we should have six types of lettuce, baby leaf salad, basil, black basil, Greek basil, flat and curly parsley, coriander, oregano, lemon thyme, lemon balm, chives, mint, spring onions, whit, red and brown onions, courgettes, pumpkin, leeks, baby sweet corn, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, fennel, purple sprouting broccoli, garlic, black cherry toms, plum toms, beefsteak toms, cherry toms, red, yellow, orange and green Peppers, Patti pan, beetroot and of course exploding hedgehogs.
That's all I can remember so far, but look out for the new film 5 weeks later to see how everything is going just on water and compost.
I look forward to your comments and will answer any questions you may have on gardening for beginners & kids or Raw food.
Sid
PS. Iam recycling all the stones and sticks so that's what i'm doing picking little bits out of the rubbish. hope that explains that.
Hey guys, haven't seen either of you for...oh bollox, too long...good to see you doing so well, lost my working garden ten years ago and miss the bugger so much, used to love doing the tour and naming all these plants bought from tiny country allotments and off old men rather than Homebase and B&Q...looking forward to November for The Mob gig in Brixton, wonder if those dayglo shirts still glo...

Sid,
I was so happy to find this next installment of your project. It inspired me out of my own funk, brought tears to my eyes and a smile on my face. I also garden and I'm learning the permaculture ways. Mixing veggies, herbs, companion plants and our next step is fruit trees. We did seeds this year and somehow everything is still alive and we are eating it, amazing stuff.
You have done so much with this small space, it's so beautiful.
Stay well and eat healthy - till the next video.

Hopefully you have a Male AND Female KIWI. Otherwise you will get no fruit. Nice garden.

Sid, that's an amazing garden you'd got going. My dad was on the raw vegan diet when he had cancer. It was in the stomach so it had gotten too late. But opened my brother and myself to raw vegan foods. What your doing here is giving great inspiration to everyone.

Good to hear about the increase in bees in your garden this year Sid, have you got any Hibernaculum boxes for Solitary Bees to nest in? Your fruit plants would benefit immensely!
