Author Sebastian Marshall points out the downward trends in the publishing industry, notes the price-fixing and cartel-like behavior, and asks his former agent Jim Levine, "Are you with the cartel or artists?" - all without wearing a shirt, and with some currency torn into pieces in the process.

  • I don't know you, but you just earned my respect and appreciation. We need more people like you to fix this world. Thanks for saying "enough is enough" and making a stand.

  • ba da boom.

  • was making valid progress toward changing the system one viewer at a time, until he went over the top and gave ammunition to the enemy. They'll shut him down over some stupid infraction and silence him. Not smart, Sebastian, in an otherwise savvy presentation.

  • @leahzero so what's your point?

  • This is just a tantrum from a prima donna who won't take his meds because he enjoys mania. If he'd done his research, he could have easily found out that the publishing industry moves at a glacial pace, that authors have little control over the packaging and distribution of their work, and so on. His agent also likely informed him of these things. Instead, he acts surprised and betrayed when he doesn't get special treatment. Typical.

  • @HaploidCell Interesting point.

It's clearly an industry walking to death. Maybe it will take longer than sebastian imagined, but it will die.

About Kindle, yep, you got a good point.

BUT, remember it's not just kindle. It's the nook. It's iBooks. And others.

Without mention pdfs, member forums (like a Mastermind)... there are several ways to spread knowledge nowadays.

  • After this showdown, I think you should have a nom de plume:

    Tyler Durden.

    :D

  • Wow, 43 Simon & Schuster employees are on Youtube, huh? LOL.

  • Could you talk a bit more quickly, please.
