Ric Flair fought Mark Thomas to a no contest when Flair stopped at the commentary table on the way to the ring, provoked Roddy Piper and knocked Piper out with the NWA title. Moments later, a groggy Piper accidentally knocked out Vince McMahon with a wooden chair, Flair then hit Piper with a chair and walked away. McMahon was soon taken backstage on a stretcher, fellow commentator, Randy Savage was unable to physically help since he was on probation.
After that incident, WWF president Jack Tunney reinstated Roddy Piper to deal with Ric Flair.

What was with Piper saying, "I need my job...." Was there a gimmick on that at this time?

@xAceMCcloudx totally agree with you. The late 80s-early 90s was the era to watch.

This was when wrestling was wrestling, and it was great. The attitude era ruined pro wrestling in my opinion

@walruswasrob Vince did what he had to do to beat WcW in the ratings, and he had to do alot! I don't think Vince ever wanted to wrestle but he did what he had to do

@walruswasrob The chairshot was planned. You can tell by the way Vince was selling it. It was done for "shock value" and to add extra intrigue into the storyline.

@ECWnWWF: I'd disagree with you since Flair was on WWF turf. But when Hogan, a WWF-bred talent, walked into WCW and beat Flair in his FIRST match there, your statement has some credibility. If anything, WWF has taught their best talent to be protective of their livelihoods.
