Join VISIT FLORIDA Beaches Expert, David McRee as he shows you one of his favorite day trips to a barrier island that can only be reached by boat. Cayo Costa Island State Park, off of Florida's Gulf Coast near Fort Myers, features a secluded nature beach that's perfect for relaxation or even a romantic getaway. We'll also explore Cabbage Key, another nearby nature beach. Nature beaches offer a more serene alternative to the other, more lively beaches Florida is known for.

  • My cousin is the only year round resident on cayo costa.

  • Cayo Costa is only State Park over 20% of it's total area. The remainder is predominantly State/County owned with around 3% privately owned. There is only one year round resident, other than a few Rangers. Around 20 private homes on the 7 mile island. Mck C.

  • awesome place. Stayed in one of the island's cabin this past December. Loved collecting those sea shells washing up on shore!
