Well, there's a lot of answers to that one. It's difficult enough to find a club that has an olympic size rink (100' wide instead of just the normal 85').
Not to mention it's a small sport, nobody would invest the literally millions of dollars it would cost to build a large enough ice surface to do any sort of road-course type track. It would be pretty sweet if some cities or counties up north (WAY north) would flood some walking paths (without trees nearby hopefully) to skate on though.
Why don't they do this race on a proper 'course' instead of just a short oval? Have some straights, chicanes, rights, lefts, turns of different radius and duration? Open wheel cars do ovals & they do road courses, why don't they have the same variety here?
why don't they play golf with buildings, caves etc, why don't they have the same variety there.....oh, they do it's called mini-golf:-)
