okay, when you find the clay what natural substance can be used to make the clay more firm..in other words how can you make the clay stronger naturally before it dries?

Wow, I came upon some clay when I was a child playing at a creek. I thought it might work, but never tried using it!

@berky1976 That makes sense, I realised that the surface clay is yellow, the deep one you take out when you dig a well does tend to be more grayish, still yellow though, but I guess what you said is right.

@AlexMitan the color is due to whatever bio material decomposed and what bacteria is present during the formation of the clay. Typically clay will be from tan to gray to reds. That is why the clay in Romania is different from say Brazil or Africa. All part of the diverse world we live in.

I live in florida and want to dig up clay to build a cob / adobe house . But I am having a hard time finding anything especially since I dont know what it looks like or where "EXACTLY" to find it. everything here has so much sand and dirt I cant tell what is what. I have looked all over the internet for anything pertaining to what I want to do but every one is in a northern state and say that they do not know about florida. If you know of anything please let me know.
