Thanks for this Sian! I was trying to figure out how on earth I'd get Pepper to learn this, and then I thought, "Oh, I bet Sian did a tutorial!", so I went to check your channel, and I was right. :) Will be practising this tomorrow! :D xxxx

This doesn't work for my dog. When taught her "leave it" by having a treat, and if she went for the treat, we would cover it before she could get it when she was first learning, so if u cover something, she will leave it alone unless you say "take it". I taught my puppy high five by gently holding her paw with my hand that had a treat in it, & she was interested in the paw, i click, let go, and treat. I did this about 10 times and then i held out my hand with a treat in it and she slapped me 5!

Great video. Once they have learnt what to do when do you name the action? Or do you just rely on the cue of you holding your hand up. Can this kind of thing only be taught with a clicker?

your videos are great, i am going through training classes with my puppy and my trainer is not very informational, your great keep up the good work, your dogs are very cute!!!
this was extremely helpful! my dog princess is really slow but after about 20 minutes she knew how to give me her paw without the sticky note. She still wont give me her paw unless I have a treat in my hand. Do you have any tips to how to get her to give me her paw without a treat?

@xBloodRazorx that's really great progress :) if your dog really wants you to have a treat in your hand then start closing your hand round the treat so as your dog can't see it first, do this 5 or 6 times and then take a fake treat, in other words reach for a treat and close your hand but don't really take one, your dog should be fooled and do the trick, then show your dog that you don't really have a treat in your hand and reward with a treat and praise. then you can start phasing out the treat

Very good and very usefull. my 10 week puppy did it in 45 minutes from a small plate to hand with your method. grabbing his leg yesterday didn't do it at all. A+

@Oiwnos17 that's wonderful, I'm so happy this video was a help to you :) I used to try and train tricks with hands on too but now I strictly train all my tricks hands off and I find it quicker and that the dogs enjoy training much more :)
