Balázs Alpár
Electroacoustic Suite for Office Instruments
Part I. 1'11
Part II. 6'03
Part III. 3'00
The piece is based on recorded ambient sounds, and noises, that can be most typically heard in an office room. I handled these noises as real musical motifs even suitable for the use of traditional Beethoven-like motive development techniques. During Part II the standard noise of a running computer is gradually morphed into a glass-like, transparent sonic texture, the sound of an old printer is smoothly transmuted into the voice of a breathing human, the strikes on the computer keyboard sometimes sound like ancient tribal drumming. The different audio effects are used to create numerous new versions of each original motive often giving them a new meaning, a new atmosphere, which initiate abstract associations about the relation of man and machine, monotone rhythmical patterns and chaos, hi-end technology and ancient nature.
