War inflicts terrible physical and mental injuries; medical practitioners try to save lives, manage disease, and rehabilitate the wounded. From May 27 to November 13, 2011, the Canadian War Museum presents War and Medicine, a special exhibition that explores the uneasy and evolving relationship between warfare and the medical profession. In this video, Kathryn Lyons, the Interpretive Planner of this exhibition, tells the story of Sergeant Bill Foxley and the genius and compassion of the medical team at Queen Victoria hospital, in the United Kingdom.

While I like to think that I understand the sacrifices that individuals make during war, I suspect that without experiencing it myself (something I hope I never have to do), I'll never truly be able to grasp the true meaning of sacrifice.
I am looking very much forward to viewing the exhibition and understanding more about how our society is taking care (or trying to take care) of those who have made these sacrifices.
