short video on my temperature monitoring setup. It uses a digital thermometer that connects to this laptop with a RS232 connector. I wrote the software in Visual Basic 3 years ago, and I keep meaning to rewrite it with more bells and whistles, but haven't got around to it. The software doesn't crash, and it runs all winter long...The digital thermometer is pretty old , purchases around 1991 to use in a computer controlled brewing set up I built. It uses a pretty odd baud rate and connection protocol to connect to the pc. It was a good learning experience writing the software.

  • I don't know what is considered "over fired" for a wood stove, other than what I see on those little magnetic stick on temp gauges . I measure the temp on the very outside edge of the stove...the highest I have seen it is 450F at that location...using a digital infrared thermometer, I read around 650F on various parts of the stove .seems too hot...I attended a chimney fire seminar a few years back, and they recommended keeping the flue temp at the exit of the chimney over 300F.

  • hello , i just installed a Fisher Mama bear stove , i need to know what surface temperature on top of the stove is to high, over fired temperature , which will tell me when to close the air intakes. I cant use a flue thermometer , my stove has a short pipe into my fireplace. I have a flue thermometer on the top of the stove, and it seems to heat the house best over 600 degrees. what surface stove temperature is overfiring ?
