The sun rose and Nick still lay in the same exact spot. The camp grew busy and he could hear loud talking, some screaming and crying, and the ocassional gun shot. The mess on his face was mixed together dirt from the ground and tears from his eyes, as he has stayed up late to cry.

Nick achely pushed himself off of the ground, seeming like everything on his body hurt him. Then, he saw Selena.

She was lying there on the ground, so peacefully in her never-ending slumber. The tears welled again in his eyes as he crawled over to her and flipped her over. She didn't have any blood on her, and she looked so peaceful. . . Just like she had when he made love to her.

Then, something happened that shocked Nick, who made his heart pause inside of his chest, and his mind to freeze inside of his head like a Mammoth stuck in ice and the blood rushing to it made him feel light-headed.

Selena's eyes fluttered open, exposing the chocolatey brown orbs that popped against the whites of her eyes that never looked more ivory.

"Sel-Selena?" Nick croaked, "but h-how--" she put a finger to his lips.

"I'm a very good actress," she smiled, oblivious to the kind of pain that Nick had just endured, thinking the one he loved was dead.

"I... love... you," he sobbed, now crying in her arms. She giggled and ruffled his curls. Reassuring him that she is "fine". "Am I in some sort of dream? Or am I dead? Or both?" He asked, waiting for someone to wake him up and he'll return to his life without Selena.

"Nick, I'm alive. Joe didn't shoot me, I don't even know what the hell he was shooting at." She smirked funny, contempalating in her mind what could have been shot instead of her.

"The thump?"

"I tripped," she beamed. This almsot seemed to perfect--too good to be true. How could Nick go from depressed with sadness, to beaming with excitement? It was too much emotion to bear. "Nick are you alright?"

"Selena. . . This is too good to be true. . . I--"

"Shh, Nick, everything is fine. I'm fine. I'm here with you now. I promise." She played with his curls again, brushing back the few that fell over his left eyes.

"Who do you think told them?" He asked, biting his lip questioningly. Selena opened her mouth to ask a question, but Nick predicted it. "Selena, who told those fucking monsters that I'm in love with you?!" He exploded.

"Shh, Nick. . ." Selena stroked his right cheek with one of her hands, soothing him. "I don't know, anyone who knows me knows that."

"What about that girl we met... Hannah! That's her name! Your friend!" He suggested. Selena bit her lower lip, her crooked teeth puncturing the soft flesh. She shrugged.

"Maybe."

"Selena, this is no time for 'maybes'. There's someone out there," he pointed to the camp, "who has it out for us. I. . .I'm not loosing you again. I'm not going through what I just went through, again. I'm not that strong."
