The old ball joints up close & ball joint test on driver side tire.
The first ball joint I show is from the driver's side, it's darker around the ball because the seal broke and squeezed some grease into it. The second ball joint is from the passenger side, bone dry and all rust, the seal never gave. Funny that the test on the passenger side wasn't as bad as the driver's side but both joints were junk.
During the test the clunking is the steering assembly as I push & pull at the tire. There is no movement at the joints at all, the tire pushing in and out of the truck kinda like camber angle in the bad ball joint video.
This must be one of my most viewed videos :D. An update on the joints, I've squirted grease in them every 1000 km, maybe overkill, maybe not, the truck rides just as good as the day I installed them over a year ago. I find that after a lot of rain they'll leak out a few drops when I grease them, so I'd rather over grease & remove the water. I wish I had a new joint to compare the two junk ones to, one wouldn't be able to move the joint like I did in the clip, the new joints are quite tight.
