  • have you ever thought about switching to marching sticks?

they're thicker and they'd last a lot longer than regular sticks.

    beast mode son.

    very nice vid.

  • Using a combination makes your blasts faster, I've worked on it and it does help a lot. I've managed to go from about Winds of Plague speed to In The Arms Of Perdition by combining wrists with fingers.

  • I use fingers until they get tired then switch to Moeller.

  • I would certainly agree. flying finger does get very tiring and also there is a certain power loss as fingers are not all that powerful. I tend to use a hybrid of wrist and fingers so that the fingers are not doing all of the work, plus making the hit much more powerful.

  • But the fingers become tired faster than the wrist. I do both tecniques (flying finger and Moeller Technique) and I find that flying finger gets tired more quickly.

  • OK you are absolutely right. But seriously. Get a snare or practice pad and play as fast as you can with your wrist. Then try it with your fingers (if you can already do the flying fingers technique that is) see the difference? As i said, you are correct but it would take a hell of alot of effort to train your wrists to go so fast. Kollias and roddy are some of the best drummers around but not the fastest blasters. But i am NOT saying that faster blasts are better, just trying to make the point

  • Dude, you can go just as fast without the finger technique, look at kollias, goulon or roddy, you can do it however you want, its just a matter of practice

  • Ok i see your point and in theory you are correct. but it is a well known fact that most extreme metal drummers use their fingers to blast more quickly. Also i dont JUST mean your fingers, the best combination is the use of your wrists AND fingers. Alex does this and you can see it if you look closely (especially on the arms of perdition vid). Have you ever heard of Spawn of possession? Those blast beats are really fast. i could not imagine how you would do them without fingers assisting...
