This is the second and final video of my terrific flight in the Collings Foundation's rare, fully dual-control P-51C Mustang out of Camarillo, California in May 2009. Despite my limited piloting experience, I actually got to fly this aircraft for the majority of our 1-hour flight! Stu Eberhardt is the pilot in the front seat. We proceeded to go barrel-rolling all over the place. A rather fun recreational activity on a fine Saturday morning, don't you think? Definitely a personal dream come true for me, no doubt :). I got to "Rule the Skies" over Southern California in command of this aircraft for over 40 minutes of our 1-hour flight. Fly on!

My gosh, this aircraft is just so LOUD in the cockpit that you can hardly believe it. Absolutely skull-splitting, ha! Sorry for the bouncy video on some parts, but there was a bit of turbulence at low altitude that day. But this video really shows you what it was like in the cockpit. Have fun and FLY ON!

  • I thought you had said actually "fly" a P-51. Looks as if you were riding bitch seat..how does it feel.....

  • @decnet1 : Yes, I actually DID get to fly this '51. It is a fully dual-controlled aircraft. However, Stu Eberhardt (the pilot) was certainly not going to let me do a low approach and landing on my own! However, I got to crank this aircraft around the skies on my own when we were at altitude for about 40 minutes, simply awesome!

  • Having flown 172s from this same airport , it makes it even more impressive the awesome performance of that aircraft even in the pattern. The '51 always was my favorite aircraft.

  • loooks wired

  • Wow, one of the old 'Razorback' models!

  • Best sound in the world is that of the Mustang.

  • I like that little flash of light at 0:03; it's like the plane's winking.

  • That looks like Stu Eberhardt flying Betty Jane!

  • @mcnastyrangerz wow if i had that much than i would of bought it of of them! lol at that price, if only i had the money.....lol

  • @mcnastyrangerz Based on recent sales of a few of the very few dual-control P-51s around, this aircraft was probably purchased for about $2.8 million. Realistic operating cost is more than $2,000 per hour.
