Monsoon in Kathmandu, starts from the first week of June till the end of October, Kathmandu once home to only a few thousand people is now home to almost one million inhabitants. Now a concrete jungle Kathmandu is the largest Metropolitan city of Nepal. Seen in this clip is the famous clock tower, better known as the Ghanta Ghar. The original clock tower was designed after the Big Ben of London, as Western influence crept into Nepalese architecture during the Rana era. The GhantaGhar that stands today was rebuild after the 1990 BS earthquake, standing on site of the original. It was built by the then Rana Prime Minister Shree Teen Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana.

The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal surrounded by four major hills: Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri
Kathmandu is the capital of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and headquarter centre of 14 administrative zones of Nepal. Not only is Kathmandu the economic hub of Nepal, it is the cultural and tourism capital of the country. The history of Nepal can be dated back to nearly 2000 years AD. The city is the nucleus of Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which includes two sister cities called Lalitpur and Bhaktapur/Bhadgaon. The UNESCO has inferred these three cities as "Kathmandu Valley-UNESCO World Heritage Site" as one unit.
