I hope you enjoy my little composition. Several items of difficulty are: Nature Photography and Videography require patience, experience, good equipment, and technical skills. Underwater in the ocean, all these requirements are amplified, by the need to fight against powerful forces (currents, waves and pressure). Finally, conducting these operations on ONE BREATH-HOLD makes Ocean Freediving Video/Photography a challenge of great order. On this particular dive, many things came together....for one,the lighting was just right. And Hanauma Bay offers an immense variety of wild life within a small area. Slowly acquiring the skills, and as I review the film I see many mistakes, but also moments of good concentration on subject. Finally, note that the film has to be "scored" to the music (Wagner) as opposed to usual way (film, then score the music).

  • Valhala,

Yeah, that's why I had to move to Hawaii.

I would die without an ocean around me, or I would have to think of very creative ways to make Quarry diving more interesting, and I bet people do.

Yeah, too bad rivers don't usually have good vis, probably could be interesting diving.

Well, I suppose if I lived land-locked, I would always be saving up for the next "dive trip", in the meantime pool-training.

    Aloha, UC

  • I live in the Midwest and people dive here. except for people who dive in rivers for working on Locks and damns most of the recreational diving here is in Quarries. Not very interesting unless there is some kind of wreck or equipment in the Quarry.

Usually it's a matter of depth...so getting to 40 foot depth is good. On the south-east side of island is not so much sand, and a very strong current....so it stays flushed, and it's almost that clear just 100 feet off the beach.

Yeah, Continental beaches aren't likely to have "clean" water....typically due to large river run-outs... That's why Florida (south) has great diving water (no rivers from inland).

  • I do have a ? for you USC, how far out do you have to go for the water to be that clear?

I mean in the sense, I have done some skin diving right off the beach maybe gone out 8 meters deep and it's not to clear off Eastern seaboard of the US.

  • Problems? What sort?
