Sara talks to a Barred Owl named Oliver. She shares six-year-old Oliver with those in attendance at Wildlife Prairie Park's Earth Day Celebration 2009. Park staff thought Oliver was male until she laid an egg. She weighs two pounds and will only eat white mice. An owl has 14 bones in their neck, compared to the human's, seven. Therefore, they have great range of neck motion. Owls aren't very sociable with each other. They're only social for mating, but pay no attention to each other at other times. Since they are high on the food chain, they have few predators.

  • but does it rotate?

  • I saw the birds of prey show one time back in April of 2008. In the show, there was a barn owl, barred owl, bald eagle, and a turkey vulture. The barred owl fluffed itself up and snapped its beak at the bald eagle whenever the handler brought the bald eagle near the barred owl. I really enjoy seeing the bird of prey shows because they are so cool.
