I am 60 years old when I first heard this song and for some years after I thought it was about a ship that sank in the 1930's. I don't why the 30's but that is what I deduced. I about fainted when I found out the ship sand and the song was written very soon after. Man Gord could sing.

brian burns from texas made a version where he states all the names with a ring of a bell at the end. it's not as good as gordo but still an excellent song!

The vocals and instruments really give you a sense of the area. If anybody has spent time on the North Shore of MN, you will know what I mean.

Dear Viewer: It reminds me of my decorated armored infantryman father in the "Battle of Hatten and Rittershoffen" in the winter of 1944-45 on the Upper Rhine River on the North Alsatian Plain with their Company Commander Captain calling Artillery on forward positions..." I use to live in MIchigan and I remember when this song came out. If you think about it it is ironice the Edmund Fitzgerald lives in the minds as well as the Titanic does.

A limerick there ought to be
For those who are lost out at sea
I often do pray
They will find a way
To escape from the bottom debris
