It shows you everything. The trick is to listen as well. He clearly states that he's using two chords: D6 and D9. If you look you can see that they share the same shapes. If you don't get this you need to get yourself a book of basic chord shapes. And learn to listen.

6th chords - so fat! A million years ago I heard Cream, live - those 6th chords on "Politician' (down from the V Chord to the IV)? - What a big, "downtown" sound, with just 3 guys playing to 10,000 people.
