PART ONE: FEATURING THE C&S BRANCH

On a sunny afternoon, Penn Rail Videos when out to find and see the R&N's #425 being ferried back to Port Clinton shops; #426 is doing the honors. We'll meet up with the move just north of Jim Thorpe in the Lehigh Gorge, as the the train clears CP COAL junction, and heads into town. In Jim Thorpe, a few passenger cars were dropped off for the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, as the first excursions of the year will begin the following week. After the engines are arranged so that #426 is leading the #425, we'll watch them leave JT for the run west to Port Clinton. Though the 425 isn't in the lead, she still is putting on quite a show by sounding her beautiful SOUTHERN 3 CHIME whistle all throughout the valley. Then, #425 will PUSH #426 up the Hometown Hill, putting on an awesome display of steam supremacy! East Mahanoy Jct. is where we'll leave the train, as it makes a quick stop to call the dispatcher for clearance into Port Clinton. Be sure to catch the rest of the action on Part 2, where we'll follow the move into Port Clinton, and watch #425 get put away for the night.

  • Why the hell would they put the diesel in front??

  • @adfgfds The diesel is there to protect the steam engine. R&N has a policy that the steam engine is to be the show-piece ONLY during the scheduled excursion; otherwise must be led by a diesel locomotive.

  • Did they drop off coaches in Thorpe before heading to PN?

  • @jimbo2317 Yes.

  • nice vid ,did you chase the train the day after?

  • @shininghappyperson7 This was the day after the excursion.

  • One word for that Adam...Awesome, so many stand out shots, but to name just two the pacing in the Lehigh Gorge and then 425 pushing 426 at Hometown Hill. I wish our engines could have a whistle like that

  • LOL - I saw the title moments after I posted that last comment...

  • @5:07 is the one place that I absolutely HAVE to go to if I'm chasing 425 back to Port Clinton - I just have to remember where exactly that is along the line...
