Click the link below for my updated guide to Windows 8 Consumer Preview on Parallels:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiWB4lVXOVc

In this video, I show how you can run the preview version of Windows 8 within Parallels (or you can use any other virtual PC software such as VM Ware) on a Mac running OSX Lion.

But don't be put off, this demo is also applicable to PC users who want to run Windows 8 on a separate partition or their own Virtual Machine (recommended).

  • I dont see why you talk about iOS like its amazing. Im watching this video from the youtube app on my iPad, but even still, iOS to me feels much too restrictive. To little customizability, too much order. The app store is entirely too limited imo. Just my opinion :D

  • @MrRenneck iOS is good for what it is and for a mobile platform it is pretty user friendly and high value when it comes to user experience. You don't need a ultra-customisable OS for a mobile platform - that kind of functionality is superfluous and the realm of nerds. How can the App Store be limited when it has proved to be the most successful way to deliver software and been copied by Android and Microsoft?

    Anyway, thanks for your opinion.

  • Its clear that you dont understand the Metro design language.

  • @timotim27 It's ugly.

  • @1MinuteFlipDoc Do you really want me to shout in your ear? I can shatter glaciers with a whisper, bring down whole mountain rangers with a laugh and re-ignite dormant volcanoes with sneeze. If I spoke in my normal voice, it would unhinge your poor, pathetic monkey brain. So I keep it quiet for your own good. You should thank me for that! Huzzah!

  • That was very interesting. I hope the Windows 8 music is as good as the music in this video. It fitted nicely. I will have to see what advantage this OS offers me. A cheaper multitouch tablet with fantastic musical instruments would do it. Loic LeMur has said that this marks the death of the desktop. Looks more to me like the death of the consumer PC. We can only hope!

  • @vrooomuk i respectfully disagree. i would say that iOS presented a massive leap forward for mobile OS's, but still is quite far behind full OS's that Windows 7 and OSX present.

to apples "walled garden" approach: the words "equal for all users" suggests that the experience limits user creativity. people are unable to have their device exactly the way they would like because the format is chosen for them.

to each their own. I enjoyed our discussion, happy new year to ya :D

  • @MrRenneck But one could argue that we have moved beyond Desktop OS systems now. With regards to your app store criticism, Apple operate in a walled garden and it works well for them. It means that the user experience is equal for all users. Allowing any flexibility from third parties would sully that experience.

  • @MrRenneck between mobile devices and desktops is growing smaller, and the limited nature of the 2007 mobile OS isn't needed anymore. we can have more complexity now, because we have hardware that can support it. an iOS2 could fix this entirely.

about the app store. I should be able to download apps directly from the developers web page, and not be directed to the app store to do it. in this way, it feels weak. i want the mobile platform to surpass desktops in flexibility.

    just my opinion :D

  • @vrooomuk ok, let me backtrack a bit lol. iOS is good at what it does. it is a fairly solid platform for a mobile device. it is very "light," in that its very clear with what you can and cannot do, which it needs to be in order to remain inside the power constraints of the hardware. but iOS was first launched in 2007 with the iPod Touch, when we might not have had the technology to put a fully fledged OS on a mobile device. Today, we're approaching a time where the differences in power...

  • Haha "I've got a few in nicknacks but no devices"

  • nice review. but your voice is so soft, it almost put me to sleep! you should read and record audio books. I'd play them to put my kids to sleep. hahah
