If this song wasn't written for Frances Langford...It should have been. From 1946

  • Me too! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this - she sang so meltingly smooth but could have fun with a song without losing the musicality... gotta mention my dad here again, something he said about Frances... he said she had 'hawk ears!' Such a joy.

  • @enigmamelodies I feel this song could be a hit...today! Frances just oozes appeal. For me it would be Sooner than Later, lol. One of the things I love about Frances is her renditions are never maudlin. Some singers try so hard to be "cutesie" that it sends my sugar way up. Frances is ALWAYS the epitome of good taste. Have you heard 'PLEASE DON'T PLAY #6 TONIGHT'? It's a wonderful novelty song from 1947. She does it on one of the Maxwell House shows. It was a big hit nation wide.

  • @CarloQuinto 'Frannie' was my father's favourite female singer. Bar none. I grew up loving her voice above all other singers of the day. I like the way some other people sing, but as to voice - it's Frances. One of the things she had which made it all work was - superb breath control. This made all the hard things she did sound simple. & yes, good taste. Sadly lacking today. It is wonderful that you have found her 'now' and have been bringing her back to life in your admiration of her.

  • @enigmamelodies Frances has spoiled me for listening to any other singer in any era. It's not just her voice but her sincerity, diction, control, innate musicianship. Listen to Gershwin's 'THE MAN I LOVE' where she absolutely gives a master class. always loved that song but never found a singer that understood it...Until Frances Langford!

  • Oh, and sorry, no, I haven't heard it.... Never even heard of it. Funny. I remember a lot of 'parties' which were just gatherings in 'the hut' where we would all hide during a severe hurricane. Florida, don'tcha know... Hurricanes were just an excuse to get together and dad never forgot his guitar. Never heard her sing this one.

  • @enigmamelodies You will adore #6! Fran is so irresistible! The words go..."Pleas don't play #6 tonight, for #6 was meant for two...There must be others you can choose from...that I won't get the blues from...and the end..."I confess that I can't fake it...would someone kindly break it...like it broke my heart in two."You want to just put your arm around her and hug her! Perfect for a "Hurricane" gathering.

  • She makes a song unforgettable. I also liked the beginning instrumental "vamp."

  • @CarloQuinto Of course, you are absolutely right about all these things you say, all there. By the way, I got a copy of a film called Career Girl from Amazon but I can't download it only watch it. I will have to buy a real dvd I guess. She sings two songs dad wrote in the film. 'Someday' (which has some thoughts for your sci fi) and a sort of beguine called 'That's How the Rhumba Began'

  • @RJMCCLOUD So glad you're back. I was concerned that your post was removed. We eagerly look forward to your thoughts and comments, always so well thought out and so well presented.

I just love this song! I knew I would here it 'Sooner or Later'!

  • @CarloQuinto My original post was duplicated, so I deleted it and guess what ?..........both of the comments were deleted at the same time !! ..........Just to let people know, I was saying that Sooner or Later is a great Frances Langford song, and I was wondering if it was an original recording or if it was taken from a live radio show.
