At a guess, the ER-1 sends out midi note information, so it is sequencing the drumstation (sequencing just means that it spits out the right bit of midi data at the right time, e.g. a "C1" on the first beat of every bar or something like that). So the ER-1 is triggering the drum station sounds. However, unless the ER-1 sends midi controller change data too (this is what gets sent when you move a parameter knob) then yes, you will have to adjust the parameters on the drum station)

sorry for the idiotic question, but how exactly is the Er-1 interfaced with the DrumStation? Midi wise. Midi confuses the hell out of me. Do you have to adjust the parameters in the drumstation?

As the OS in the drum station is stored in ROM, there is no way to perform a factory reset without replacing the EPROM....
