the story of the space jockeys, sad, depressing, and yet fascinating and frightening.

@RogueRotting360 Doesn't change the fact it din't work
-
@dragmio Scott just wanted the eerie silence of Kane approaching the eggs, as opposed to music.
-
@Asdferfjg It was written for the acid test sequences, but it was replaced in the film by Goldsmith's Main Title for Freud, a score he did in the early 60s

@mrpolaroid123 "The score to 'The Shining' was in itself a fantastic orchestral piece of music, but in my opinion, it never quite worked with the film..."
That's because it wasn't written for the film. Kubrick took concert works by Penderecki, Ligeti, and Bartók and edited them into scenes.

Smells like mystery and death.

Truly great avangarde score, love it !!!

That flute in the beginning is haunting. Who knew that that instrument could be so terrifying?

I was not scared of space... until I watched alien. Now whenever I look at those hubble photos from nasa, this music is all I hear in my mind.
This is when they discover the Space Jockey. He expresses with minimal sound the terrifying situation

I wish more movies nowadays would have scores like this, not songs by big-name bands.
