Civilization, as a form of human social organization, is inherently unsustainable and inherently violent because it requires perpetual expansion, because its farming techniques denude the land on which it's based.

Primitive horticulture, and what we today call 'permaculture,' allow its practitioners to enter into a relationship with the Earth, rather than being forced to continuously extract resources from it.

What we need now is to find natural, organic ways to be happy, healthy humans that don't require the perpetual destruction of planet Earth, or die. Rewild, or die.

He is talking about honing technology and science to create a synergistic relationship with the earth and its resources so that humans can live sustainably and healthily.
