Back when it was a game. Anyone else have their teacher bring the black and white TV into the classroom, provided you were quiet, so that you could watch the World Series? I know why they moved to night games but I miss the day WS games. I guess I am just old-skool...;-(

Yeah, the "back when it was a game" comment seems to me a bit delusional. You know that the start of this very season, 1972, was delayed because of a player's strike, don't you? Baseball stopped being a game and became a business when admission began being charged, probably in the middle 1800's. It's been a business ever since.

It come to prove how tenacious the A's were. They were so determined they took it out on eachother. Regardless 3 peat!

Jackson was replaced by Joggin George Hendrick (#25), who would later go on to be a force for the 1982 WS Champion STL Cardinals. Hendrick is now a coach for the Rays.

This is fun to watch but boy do I despise the "good old day"isms of some of these comments. You do realize that old timers back in '72 were complaining about salaries and similar aspects of the game that had changed from when they were young, right?

Ah...70s baseball. Would've been nice to see Tiant go into his full windup with nobody on. Ah the memories.....

Love Gowdy and Kubek and Garigola...very informative broadcast teams on sun drench lazy Saturday afternoon...ah, yes. The good ole' days. Lets go A's! Lets go A's! Lets go A's!
I don't get it. If tony kubek said oak was tired, they must've put on one hell of a last minute push. They were world champs in 72'.

@VolumedMusicMan I gather that Kubek was referring to the A's current mood rather than their full season. At the time this had happened, Oakland had lost three straight one-run games to the Red Sox, including an 14-inning loss the night before and an 11-inning loss the night before that. This game was the first of a doubleheader. It may have been more their current state of mind rather than a condemnation on the whole season.
