Not sure what the kendoka was doing here. The longsword guy's do and kote were wide open for the entire match, but he didn't go for them. Maybe the longsword guy didn't have armor there, and they agreed in advance not to strike those areas?

@Trollvolk you dont move much??? footwork is crucial with german longsword. theres nothing /i hate more than giving ground but a good side/triangle step gives you more angles. what manuals are you learning from???

Hahah, never heard about duckwalk in medival fencing =) Iam fencing with the german longsword and it is important that you do not move to much and you dont do a lot othese funy cross steps =)

@CoIdHeat Actually, it's even worse, as modern fencing is relatively similar to Italian smallsword fencing invented for private duels a few centuries back.

@mechupanlamonda depends upon the shinai really, the western longsword weighs about the same as a katana though so I don't really think it should matter that much. with Moon lancer though this longsword guy really isn't using any real wma style I've ever seen. He's much to static with his guards and doesn't seem to be trying for any single time strikes...

Yeah, I don't know what this guy is doing. Its not English, its not German, its not Italian, and probably not Spanish.
In other words i don't think this is a very good western martial arts vs eastern martial arts video. I wish i could fight someone from a kendo background. I think it would be a fun experience. .

They should have put a Do and Men on the WSA guy so the Kendoka could make full power thrusts to the throat and Do cuts to the torso. Kendoka could be more agressive and his footwork is too wide ( the left is too far behind the right ). This gives up range.
Freakishly wierd WSA style though.
