  • This must have been so humiliating for black lol

  • Indeed. I played Mr Akers a couple of years ago and he gave up his Q for N to avoid a mating attack. However I didn't have a mating attack! Careful defence led to equality. I pointed this out to him after the game. However he is an improving player.

  • Another question here, why didn't White resign? Usually at -221, a queen and more besides down, White would just throw the towel in. It was a good job he didn't!

  • I don't know. Some players just don't resign. Also as long as he had a Q+R there was always a chance of pulling something off. Here he was dead lost, then lost and then he won! As they say you never win by resigning. Remember this was in a lower rated tournament. All sorts of things happen at that level. It's part of the drama of the game.

  • In the final position Black surely knows that there was a win somewhere but he also knows that he was going to lose because he was not able to find it. After 5 or 6 hours of playing he simply had a blackout. A few moves earlier he though that he had a very easy win and at the end he had no resources (strength, concentration) left to win the game a second time. Perhaps he even lost on time.

The computer engine will not be tired in a +221-position, but a human player is not a machine. Poor Akers!

  • Yep you're absolutely right. Quite often after a long gam you just get chess blindness. I had a position once where I knew I had a win but it involved a sacrifice. I knew it was there but I just couldn't see it and I spent 50 minutes looking for the winning combination. I lost. Imediately after the game an FM came up and showed me the winning brilliancy. I was gutted!

  • Mr Akers suck.

  • haha i can't believe black threw this game away

  • Also, black must still be losing sleep over this one! dp

  • I like the why did they resign series. Good job. thanks, dp

  • If black plays Qb7, white plays Rxg7+ with mate in one (Kh8 Qg8 mate or Kh6 Qg6 mate).

  • When white's rook slides to G3, threatening mate in 1, why doesn't black respond with QB7?

    That stops it!

  • hi I can't understand where you find this game. can you write it down?

    thanks

  • this is anthony akers your game is wrong i was white and james turner actually resigned not me
