He says that he believes "78-81 members of the Democrat Party are members of the Communist Party."

McCarthy was right but for the wrong reasons.This sleazoid politician somehow got info from the Venona Project, were unbeknownst to them Soviet top secret communications were being monitored by FBI. When McCarthy stated he had lists of Commies, he actually did, but at last minute Hoover stopped him from releasing same.Hoover would not let transient pol compromise this info-stream and must have found something bad on him.
