DemocracyNow.org - National Security Agency whistleblower William Binney reveals he believes domestic surveillance has become more expansive under President Obama than President George W. Bush. He estimates the NSA has assembled 20 trillion "transactions" — phone calls, emails and other forms of data — from Americans. This likely includes copies of almost all of the emails sent and received from most people living in the United States. Binney talks about Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act and challenges NSA Director Keith Alexander's assertion that the NSA is not intercepting information about U.S. citizens.

    XXX LOVE & PEACE XXX

Some of the top lawmakers closely aligned with civil liberties and Silicon Valley interests are expressing early umbrage with the Obama administration as it weighs legislative proposals to track criminals who, in the government's view, are "going dark" by communicating online. The White House hasn't signed off on a plan, which could impose fines on Internet companies that lack the capacity to comply with federal wiretapping orders. If history is any guide, however, it...

Bob, You should check out NARUS. It makes equipment and software that does all the work of the "sheer number of personnel". It's a good use of time as you will become informed of a lot more than just the narrow scope of the subject and info on this video.

I don't know how "computer-savvy" you are or how much you know about the advances in informatics, but scanning through (literally) billions of emails and searching for key-words or phrases is not a problem these days. In fact, your gmail acount does it all the time, gathering data about your preferences (be it sports, food or electronics) and providing you with fitting advertisement. This field of study is called "Big Data" and the advantages are HUGE, especially for profiling/predictions.

Actually computers read the decoded emails and scan for words like "bomb" or "attack" and narrows the search gradually, then important emails are read by a team of humans.

Use some common sense! In order for NSA to monitor the vast volume of e-mails generated in the USA, the cost would be enormous...........to what advantage? The sheer number of personnel required to carry out such a task would be astronomical.
