well you gotta put it this way look at the cost to run a window air conditioner on fan about 100 watts at max speed and with compressor bout 600watts(5,000BTU)

now think of a car the air conditioner runs on the pulley and when it engages it makes the belt pull so much more cause its making a component compress liquid which is not easy, it's really hard for me to explain anyways but people say air conditioners dont cost alot of gas well i say diffrent look at the fan-compressor compare and ullsee
