The Daves Show: BEER REVIEW (Episode 1). With special guests B.B. Bürgerbräu ( http://www.samson.cz/ ) and Erdinger ( http://www.erdinger.de/ ).
"B.B. Burgerbrau was first brewed in 1802 when it was called "Budweiser Burgerbrau." The Burgerbrau name literally means "Beer of the City's Residents." It was exported to the United States and throughout Europe in the 19th Century, and drew such acclaim that numerous breweries adopted "Budweiser" to describe a style of beer and tried to emulate the taste, quality and brewing process of Burgerbrau.
As early as 1875, beer was being exported to the United States where Budweiser (like Pilsner) was already being copied by local brewers like Anheuser-Busch. In 1895, when Budweiser Bürgerbräu became official court supplier to the King of Württemberg, the growing Czech population founded local competition as a joint stock company, today called Budějovický Budvar. In the Budweiser trademark dispute, the three companies divided the rights to use the name, with the Europe-based companies giving up the Northern American rights to Budweiser.
Bürgerbräu has marketed its beer as Budweiser Bier since 1876, while Budvar has marketed its product this way since 1895. The two companies in České Budějovice point out that Budweiser is not a generic name, but refers to a beer actually made in the city.
The existence of several beers with similar names has caused problems in some markets. In 1907 the US and Czech brewers made an agreement that Anheuser-Busch could market its beer as Budweiser only in North America, while the Czech brewers had the rights to the European markets. Anheuser-Busch markets its product as "Bud" (in France and elsewhere) and "Anheuser-Busch B" (in Germany), where the beer brewed in the original city retains the rights to the name.
Since 2005, due to the legal situation, the brewery offers its beer in the USA as "B.B. Bürgerbräu - since 1795", described as "Budweis City Bier" rather than "Budweiser beer"." (courtesy of http://www.wikipedia.org )
Its pronounced "boodsayovitse" (Budziejowice).

Anheuser Busch B?, cool name for Budweiser in Europe
B.B. Burgerbrau for Budweiser Burgerbrau has more dignity than Czechvar for Budweiser Budvar (A-B can mock it calling that beer cheesebar)
